Meet Keli Schimelpfenig

Travel Content Creator & Visual Strategist

I grew up on the water. My father served in the Navy and then the Coast Guard, so my childhood was measured in coastlines, small Minnesota lakes, the Great Lakes, the Atlantic, the Pacific. I learned to read water before I learned to read a map, and that's still how I move through a new place.

A Master's in Theatre Directing from Case Western gave me the formal language for what I'd always done instinctively: find the true moment inside the performed one. The real subject in my frame is never just the glacier or the harbor, it's the specific moment a person, often another creative working out in the wild, meets that landscape and becomes the story. Give me an actor mid-monologue on a gold rush stage, a painter with her back to a glacier, a fiddler on a dock at golden hour, and I'll find the frame that makes them the main character.

Shiny Penny Travels is a destination content studio built for the cruise and adventure travel industry, not a blog, not an influencer account. I'm already going to the ports, the tender docks, the shows lit like theater, and I bring back the specific, unexpected detail that actually makes someone decide to go.

The credential stack: owner of Shiny Penny Studios in Cleveland, twenty years marketing experience in the entertainment industry, NCL Masters agent, multiple back-to-back Alaska sailings covering every major Southeast Alaska port in different light and different seasons, Alaska and Caribbean Specialist with multiple visits every season.

If you need destination content with main character energy, I'm already going there, let's talk.

This will be my fourth Alaskan Sail and my second deep dive with repeated port stops. Growing portfolio of Alaska port entertainment, tours and adventures. This time I’ll be on an early season sail from Vancouver to Whittier. Catching the tour season as it just wakes up after winter is my angle. I’ve seen Alaska in Fall light, I will capture the midsummer crowd and long days this upcoming June. What will spring light in Alaska be like? I’ve heard it’s like an all-day golden hour haze?

Routes and sails TBD. Looking for content in your port? Let’s chat.
